Summer Football Competition rules
We know that people play in multiple competitions in the off season and rules change based on where you play, to make it easier for the participants in the North Sydney United hosted competition we have provided a link to the full set of rules that will apply for the 2024 season here below :-
The most common misunderstandings for rules, have been identified and answered below:
Can the Goalkeeper throw or kick the ball over the halfway line? - No - The goalkeeper cannot throw or kick the ball over halfway on the field at all. (Whether in the box or in an outfield position). If this occurs the possession is turned over to the other team at the kick-off spot at halfway - This rule reads that it does not matter if it is on the ground or in the air, it can't go over the halfway line intentionally from the GK at any time. Accidental will be allowed (It hits the keeper from a save etc)
Back-pass Rule (Open Play) - The goalkeeper is permitted to pick-up a back pass (within the 5m goalkeeper’s area) except from a
kick-in, unless it contradicts the back-pass rule (from a GK restart) below.Back-pass Rule (From a GK Restart) - If the GK plays a pass to an outfield player from a goal kick restart they are able to receive the ball back from the outfield player and be involved in the play with their feet, however they cannot touch the ball with their hands unless it has touched a 2nd outfield player on the same team or the opposition player touches it.
